Extended life is one benefit of the sleeve. More important is the quality of the plated parts. The sleeve reduces the carry-over of chemicals from tank to tank often found in plastic sleeves.
Double crimped knobs give a positive electrical connection and added strength not found in soldered knobs.
This is new and has never been used. It has some surface rust on the metal end and some smudges on the sleeve from being stored.
