The seven-axes (thirteen) automated lathe/mill is an auto-mill turn system - WNC 500S, manufactured by Voest-Alpine in 1990. New Condition, used only 200 hours. Original equipment price: US $ 3.2 million

Parts enter the cell on a work-staging fixture. A robotic loader and turning station move them within the cell. The loader is suspended from a 40' (12m) gantry beam, which has a common center with the spindle and turning station centers. A shuttle conveyor moving along its own axis beneath the loader creates three-axis positioning for part loading.
The loader's robot head can carry a blank and finished part simultaneously in its two gripper positions and can change hands to reverse the part in the chuck. The turning station can reverse a part for precision orientation. One end of a part can be semi-finished and then re-fixtured. After machining finished parts return to their original position on the staging fixture.
