At C-T Wire Prep Inc we have used 4 different manufacturers of what has come to be known in the wire harness manufacturing industry as “Quick change diesâ€. Presently we own and maintain over 80 dies in our die pool.
We needed a quick change die approximately 2 years ago, and decided to try out the KMUSA company to fulfill our requirements. At the price KMUSA quoted we were a little bit skeptical as to how durable the die was going to be. After 2 years of use with well over 1,000,000 hits on the die, we continue to monitor and check perishable tooling, We have not needed to change it as of yet. We have never had a die last this long. Usually 750,000 hits is the upper end for perishable tooling. The design of the die is also a forward improvement in the way these dies are adjusted. They are much easier to adjust than the regular dies we had been getting from the terminal manufacturers. The forward feed adjustment and back feed adjustment are totally separate and do not effect each other. If you’ve ever had to adjust terminal feeds for the standard quick change dies from terminal manufacturers, you’ll know what I mean when I say, “The KMUSA dies are much easier to adjust.â€
