The Metal Spinning Workshop DVDs
Do you really want to learn how to spin metal?
Because, if you do, you've just found the Mother Load on metal spinning!
This innovative DVD is the FRST EVER visual tutorial produced on the age-old craft of Metal Spinning.
You get one-on-one lessons, tips and spinning techniques from Terry Tynan, a life long professional metal spinner, from the comfort of your own workshop or home.
On the first disc Terry will show you how make your own spinning tools – all of ‘em so you will be able to spin any metal you can think of.
I didn't know you needed a different tool to spin steel or brass. Now I do. You will watch Terry make every tool you'll need.
Then he'll show you how to start using those tools to true up your stock, trim it and form a bead, (rolling over the edge).
Oh! You don't have a spinning lathe? No sweat. Next Terry shows you how to use your wood lathe for a spinning lathe. If you have a metal lathe you're ahead of the game as any metal lathe is a spinning lathe already. All you need is to make a tool rest and you're in business.
Next comes technique. Here, Terry shows you how to stand and how to move the tool. It's easy because when you watch him as he explains what he's doing as he actually makes a spun metal part so effortlessly, you'll see that you can easily do it too.
But there's more to it than that. Now, and here is where you really get your money's worth, he'll show you by doing and explaning as he goes how to set the correct speed at which you move the tool over the face of the metal your spinning. How much pressure to put on the material. And how to control both.
Because if you want to make a quality part these are essential and can only be learned by either spending countless hours teaching yourself by trial and error or by watching a real pro do it. Then it's easy!
This is the part of Terry's instruction that separates the pros from the wannabes. You can't get this knowlege from a book because you just have to see it. You've gotta watch someone do it. And because this is a DVD and not a book you get to watch!
Think he's done with you? Not yet! Now, on disc two, he'll teach you by explaning as he performs each part, and you watch and listen, as he spins all the basic shapes you'll want to make on your own, the hemisphere (both large and small), a large & small cylinder and a flute & cone.
All in all there are eight tutorials on this disc. This is nearly impossible to find knowlege because no one has ever put this information on a DVD.
There is just no better way to learn this almost lost technology than this because you can watch as he performs every technique. You'll see him do it!
Two disc set of DVDs, 2 hours of visual instruction!
Plus you get this 2nd Advanced DVD set!
O.K., now that you know how to spin metal . . .
Then you just gotta get Terry's first set because even if you've never even seen a spun part he will teach you step by step how to spin just about anything you can imagine and even to make your own spinning tools and set up just about any kind of lathe, (metal lathe or wood lathe), to spin on.
This is his Advanced metal spinning DVD set. Here you'll learn to take spinning to the next level.
You can't find this quality of spinning instruction anywhere else - I've tried.
Terry is a professional metal spinner with over 20 years of experience.
Most spun parts today are done on CNC lathes for production.
That's not what this Advanced Tools & Techniques set will teach you.
Here, Terry will teach you the how's and why's of spinning the original part - before it gets into mass production on one of those CNC machines.
This is the kind of spinning that will equip you to make anything you want.
Here, again, you get 1-on-1 lessons but now on advanced tools and techniques.
First he'll teach you about material preparation, what you need to watch out for, how to convert sheet metal into the proper size discs and how to soften them so they can be spun.
Next you'll learn about stretching the metal. This is an invaluable piece of information that will allow you to spin parts that nobody else knows how to spin.
Ever wonder how a metal vase is made that is bigger in the middle than at either end?
That's what you'll learn next as Terry shows you how to lap & lock.
That seam will not only be water tight, it will be air tight!
It's all easy if you know how.
You'll also learn how to make the tooling that's required for this operation.
If you've been spinning for a while you know how tough it can sometimes be to spin into a very small radius corner.
This is one operation that quickly separates the men from the boys in metal spinning.
The problem is that it's hard to get the metal to do what you want whenever you make abrupt changes to diameter or angle.
There's either too much metal to deal with so you get wr inkles or not enough metal so you get holes when the metal tears.
Here Terry shows you how to navigate this trouble spot like a pro.
Then in Chapter five he'll teach you how to make the tools, plugs and split tools to make parts with a "waist line" you know, that are bigger in the middle, (like me), than they are at either end.
You're gonna want to put those two together at some point so you better learn how to insure that they'll fit - exactly.
Follow what he shows and that joining seam will be air tight!
Next comes sectional tooling and breakdown tools.
This will enable you to make even more complicated parts.
You will be amazed at what Terry can do with metal!
All the above is all on disc One!
So you know he's not done with you.
On disc Two you'll learn the spinning of Silver, Brass, Copper, Aluminum and Pewter, and how to anneal and pickle each metal which is critical because each metal work hardens as its spun which creates all kinds of problems if you don't know these steps.
Then you'll learn to make special multi operation tools to make shapes you can't even imagine.
Next he'll teach you how to make an airplane prop spinner or cone head for yer demented sister.
And now that you're almost a pro yourself he'll teach you how to spin on air!
Yep, you're now so good you don't even need a plug or buck. All you'll need is that spinning metal and your imagination!
The final lesson on this Advanced Tools & Techniques DVD set is advanced beading.
Now you'll be able to put some fancy beading work on yer sister's cone head.
That's 120 minutes of eyes-on person to person instruction from a master of the Metal Spinning art.
Two disc set of DVDs, 2 hours of Advanced Metal Spinning visual instruction!
So to sum up, you get all the above, both sets - 4 DVD discs with 4 hours of Terry's personal eyeballs-on instruction!
