As a component in a test setup, the ILS-2 Line Simulator provides realistic simulation of local lines and in-housing cabling. The cable type, line length and noise parameters are easily adapted to new requirements. The ILS-2 provides a graphical editor and stored configurations for efficiency and speed.

The line modules can be set independently of one another, allowing the creation of a simulated line from up to 10 cascaded cable sections. Each module can also be set as a bridged tap. It is thus possible to simulate discontinuities due to cable junctions and bridged taps. The noise generator can insert various types of interference using balanced or common-mode coupling. The ILS-2 has already proven its worth as a reference tester for conformance and benchmark tests on the new HDSL line termination equipment (HDSL = High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line).
